Green Island is a unique mini plant that serves to collect, sort, sanitize, compact and recycle urban solid wastes (U.S.W.). It is designed so that the company, Ecoverde S.R.L., can treat and transform the waste resource, right at the collection point.
The main purpose of the Green Island is to sort, recover and dispose of U.S.W. in compliance with the Ronchi decree and to prevent soil and environmental pollution.
The Green Island plant optimizes the handling of U.S.W. both when waste collection is differentiated ― when the parties delivering the wastes (the general population) help to provide an advantage ― and when the product is undifferentiated.
The plant is, in fact, able to “automatically differentiate the wastes” and treat the U.S.W. as a "resource".
The Green Island plant is made of 316 l stainless steel and is composed of an outer body, dimensions: 3960 x 6960 x h 2325 mm the best available on the market.
Inside the outer body one finds:
- a container to receive the unsorted wastes and produce pre-compost and/or biogas or used for other purposes, dimensions: 1235 x 3620 x h 1110 mm.
- a container to receive the material to be used in the production of waste-derived fuel, maximum dimensions: 1350 x 1650 x h 2000 mm.
- a container suitable for the recovery of glass minced to the dimensions accepted by the market, dimensions: 1150 x 950 x h 1110 mm.
- a container to hold the paper and cardboard transformed into cellulose right inside the plant, dimensions: 1725 x 1625 x h 2000 mm.
- a container for plastics, dimensions: 1000 x 2000 1100 h mm.
- a container to receive steel and aluminum, dimensions: 1200 x 600 x 900 mm : x 2
- a C-shaped container to store the hazardous urban wastes and filtered water deposits (sludge), dimensions: 2000 x600 x h 800 mm.
All internal containers and the external body are reinforced by a tubular structure, dimensions: 100 x 100 x 1.5 and 100 x50 x 1.5 mm.
The entire technological plant is set underground.
Above ground all one will see is eight hoppers or openings. Of these, four are static (for the collection of drugs, batteries and hazardous wastes) or bags set in stay bays while the other 4 can only be operated by recognition and registration using a magnetic card. Moreover, a series of holes set on the roof of the operative hoppers makes it possible to insert individual cans, bottles, etc. and single pieces of material that people want to discard at the moment.
