Citizens who are sensitive to environmental protection and energy recovery separate their wastes at home. Thus, following in the illustrative material they receive at home, they place their wastes in 4 different home-use containers provided, together with suitable bags supplied by the U.S.W. collection service provider in their zone.
When the bags of wastes, both separated and not, are full, the citizens deliver them to the Green Island center.
With their magnetic card, picked up at the center or delivered at home by the service provider, the individuals can place their wastes, whether sorted or not, into the hoppers at the center. Incoming wastes are regulated by a magnetic card that records, directly at the service management site, the type of waste delivered and the weight and issues a receipt indicating both the weight and quality of the wastes. This receipt provides the person a numerical bonus according to the quality of the wastes delivered. For example, unsorted wastes have a score of (1) and a value of € 0,01 / kg; glass a score of (2) and a value of € 0,02 / kg; paper and cardboard a score of (3) and a value of € 0,03 / kg; plastics (4) € 0,05 / kg. These numbers refer to the weight and market value of the materials recovered and sold during the previous reference quarter.
Green Island is a unique mini plant ― that collects, sorts, sanitizes and recycles urban solid wastes ― set totally underground. It will be created by Ecoverde s.r.l.
Green Island will be totally underground. Above ground all one will see is four hoppers or openings, plus four static openings (for the collection of drugs, batteries and two other spares in the case of temporary machine shutdown). The former are operated by a magnetic card. Their maximum dimensions are 450 x 110 x h 135 cm including also a table of 450 x 55 x h 45 cm.
The Green Island center will be an elegant site colored to blend in with the surrounding environment where one can spend leisure time. It will be fit with accessories such as drink distributors, roofing, tables, WC, water fountain, etc. and hot and cold air grids to achieve a suitable microclimate and create a sense of wellness for the people. Moreover there can also be an information point to locate public and/or private facilities.
The center, which will hereafter be called Green Island, will be made of 316L stainless steel and composed of an outer body, dimensions: 3960 x 7008 x 2325 mm. Inside this outer body there will be a container to receive dry wastes (maximum dimensions: 2350 x 2050 x 2110 mm) plus a container for glass (dimensions: 1150 x 950 x 2110 mm). It will be completed with a container for paper and cardboard (dimensions 1825 x 3625 x 2110 mm) and another for wet material (dimensions: 2700 x 1100 x h 1200 mm).
All internal containers will be reinforced by a tubular structure (dimensions: 50 x 25 x 2). All equipment will have tubular supports (dimensions: 100 x 50 x 2 mm). The external and internal parts will be reinforced by a tubular structure (dimensions: 100 x 100 x 2 mm) that will also serve as water tank in case of need. |
